Monday, July 1

 

MEDLAR-HALL (Tapleytown) - On Wednesday, June 19, Thos. Medlar, of this place, was united in marriage to Miss Hall, of Ridgeway, a cousin of Mrs. J.C. Medlar, also of Tapleytown. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Mr. Bailey. There were present a large number of friends and relations. The bride received many costly presents.

 

DOUGLAS-TORRANCE - The marriage of Rev. Edmund T. Douglas, Methodist minister to the Toronto conference, to Miss Minnie E. Torrance, of Bartonville, took place at her home, Eden Bower Farm, on Wednesday, June 19, at 3 p.m. The bride and groom, with attendants and supporters, were nicely arranged in position under the arch of the entrance into the front parlour. The bride was attended by her sister, Maud, and Miss Douglas, sister of the groom, the groom being supported by his brother, Herbert, and the brother of the bride. The bride was charmingly attired in a dress of cream cashmere, trimmed with Spanish lace, carrying in her hand a bouquet of white carnations. The bridesmaids were dressed in harmony with the bride’s suit, carrying pink bouquets. Rev. D. Chalmers, Cainsville, performed the ceremony, and was assisted by Rev. Mr. Archer. Dinner was served after the ceremony. The happy couple left on the east-bound train for Manchester, N.Y.

 

Tuesday, July 2

 

COUTTS-VANMERE - On Monday, July 1, 1895, at the residence of the bride’s parents, by the Rev. J.H. Feilding, of Woodburn, Chrissina Elizabeth, eldest daughter of William VanMere, of Glanford, to John A. Coutts of Hamilton.

   J.A. Coutts, of this city, was married yesterday to Miss VanMere, at the residence of the bride’s parents in Glanford by Rev. J.H. Feilding of Woodburn. Mr. Mosher was best man and Miss VanMere and Miss M. Fallis were bridesmaids. There was a large gathering of friends who sat down to a wedding breakfast after the ceremony. The bride was the recipient of many beautiful gifts.

 

Wednesday, July 3

 

LARICKS-RICHARDSON - On the 2d of July, 1895, by Rev. I. Tovill, D.D., Mr. Andrew Laricks to Miss Louisa, eldest daughter of Thomas and Isabella Richardson, both of this city.

Yesterday afternoon, Andrew Laricks and Miss Louisa Richardson quietly visited the parsonage of First Methodist church and were united in marriage by Rev. Dr. I. Tovill. The happy young couple left the city on the evening train for Millville, New Jersey and other places in the United States where they expect to spend several weeks before returning to this city.

 

Thursday, July 4

 

EDMONDS-SHAW - On the 27th June, at the residence of the bride, 199 West ave. north, by Rev. James Murray, Mrs. E. Edmonds to Mr. Neil Shaw, both of this city.


   At the wedding of Neil Shaw to Mrs. E. Edmonds, the guests spent a pleasant evening dancing to the music of the bagpipes, played by Pipe-major Smith. Miss Jeanie Shaw was bridesmaid and Samuel Stewart was best man.

AITCHISON-CHILMAN - In this city, on the 4th inst., at the residence of the bride’s mother, 92 Hannah st. west, by the Rev. John Morton, Edith May Chilman, daughter of the late I.C. Chilman, to Wm. J. Aitchison.

 

LIDDYCOAT-TURNBULL (Dundas) - E. Liddycoat and Miss Turnbull were married at the Methodist parsonage by Rev. John Wakefield on Dominion day.

 

CLARK-MCALPINE (Caledonia, Ont) - Wm. Clark, eldest son of the late George Clark, of this village, was married on Wednesday to Miss Lillian McAlpine, also of this place. The ceremony, which took place in Hamilton, was performed by Rev. Mr. Shearer.

CHADWICK-WILLMORE  - At the residence of the bride’s sister, East ave, north, on Thursday the 1st inst., by the Rev. John Morton, of Congregational church, Clara, daughter of the late Alfred Willmore, of Florence, Mass., formerly of Hamilton, to Charles W. Chadwick, son of J.H. Chadwick, of this city.

   At the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Albins, on East avenue, was gathered last evening a large company of friends, to witness the marriage of their sister, Miss Clara Willmore, to Charles W. Chadwick. The simple, yet solemn, rite was performed by Rev. John Morton, of First Congregational church. The bridal party looked very pretty as they entered the parlours to the strain of the wedding march. Miss Nellie Willmore, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid. Joseph Wheeler attended the groom. The many beautiful marriage gifts were greatly admired by all. After the ceremony the wedding guests, numbering forty, sat down to a sumptuous and elegantly arranged supper. Speeches were made testifying to the high esteem in which the bride and groom were held, and prophesies in abundance were uttered regarding their future happiness.

 

BAIN-REID - At the residence of the bride’s mother 36 Pearl street north, on Wednesday, July 31, by the Rev. Dr. Fraser, Miss Maggie Reid third daughter of Mrs. R.P. Reid, of this city to Thomas Bain, of Cleveland, Ohio, formerly of this city.

 

SHUTTLER-WILSON - Miss Louisa Shuttler, youngest daughter of Samuel Shuttler, was united in marriage on Wednesday by Rev. Mungo Fraser to William Wilson, son of James Wilson of Hall’s Corners. Miss Aggie Wilson, sister of the groom, assisted the bride, while George Shuttler, brother of the bride, assisted the groom. The happy couple will spend their honeymoon among relatives before settling down.

MCKELLAR-MITCHELL - On Wednesday 14th August, 1895, at the residence of the bride’s parents, Spring Creek Farm, Waterdown, by the Rev. P. McEachern, Daniel B. McKellar of Toronto, to Maggie E., third daughter of John Mitchell.

 

HOWLAND-BETHUNE (Toronto) Aug. 15 - Sir William P. Howland, C.B.K.C, M.G., was married this morning to Mrs. Bethune, widow of the late James Bethune, Q.C. The wedding was celebrated privately at the home of the bride on Bedford road. Legal representatives of both families were present for the purpose of preventing any future contest in regard to the marriage. Sir William is a former lieutenant-governor of Ontario, and is 84 years of age. Mrs. Bethune is aged 60, and is the daughter of the late Dr. Rattray, of Cornwall. Sir William has been twice previously married.

 

Saturday, August 17

 


MITCHELL-MCKELLOR - On Wednesday a very pleasant event occurred at Spring creek Farm, the hospitable residence of John Mitchell, Waterdown, when about a hundred of their friends and relatives assembled to witness the nuptials of his daughter, Maggie E, one of the fairest of the many daughters of East Flamboro, to D.B. McKellor, of the Toronto Telegram. The bride looked charming attired in a lovely gown of white crepon, with point d’esprit waist over white silk, with ribbon and pearl trimming. The bridesmaid, Miss Nellie Vallery of Toronto, was bewitching in white clarette gown with chiffon and pearl trimmings and carried a bouquet of pink roses. The groom had for his aide Alex Mitchell, of Hamilton, brother of the bride. The weather being fine, the ceremony was performed on the lawn by Rev. P.M. McEacheran and after congratulations the guests partook of an elaborate collation served in a large marquee erected for the purpose which was beautifully decorated with evergreens and a profusion of flowers and illuminated with Chinese lanterns.

   Dr. McGregor, in his usual happy style proposed the toast of the health of the bride, which was enthusiastically honored as were all the toasts of the bridesmaid and host and hostess. The bride received a large number of magnificent gifts. The happy couple left on a two-weeks trip through western Ontario and the United States and will be home to friends at 32 Robinson street, Toronto, after Aug. 27.

LAND-LANE (Bartonville) - A very happy event took place last Tuesday evening at the residence of Mr. Lane, being the marriage of his daughter, Lucy, to Charles Land, of Saltfleet.

OLD-STEIN (Caledonia) Aug. 23. - J.H. Old, a Caledonia boy, was married in Bright on Wednesday to a Miss Stein of that village. Those who attended the wedding from here were Mr. and Mrs. F. Old, the groom’s parents, and Mrs. D. Jones (Oneida), the bride’s sister. The newly-married couple will spend a day or two on their way home from Port Colborne where the honeymoon was spent.

Monday, September 2

 

SPICER-BAXTER - On Saturday, August 31, at the residence of the bride’s parents, 135 Wellington street north, by Rev. J.F. Barker, Geo. W. Spicer, to Miss Aggie Baxter.

   A simple and quiet wedding took place at 135 Wellington street north on Saturday afternoon, when Miss Aggie Baxter, eldest daughter of Thomas Baxter, became the happy bride of Geo. W. Spicer. There was an attendance of between 30 and 40 friends of the family present, and the wedding ceremony was performed by Rev. J.F. Barker, of Victoria avenue Baptist church. The bride was attired in a costume of crepon, trimmed with Spanish lace. The bridesmaid was Miss Effie Baxter, sister of the bride. Angus Anderson supported the groom.

   The young couple left after the ceremony on a trip to eastern points and on their return will reside at 268 Victoria avenue north.

 

KENNEDY-LUNY (Caledonia) - A social event of considerable importance which took place on Thursday, was the marriage of Miss Kate Kennedy, a popular young lady of the village and eldest daughter of Donald Kennedy, merchant tailor, to Mr. Luny of Chicago. The ceremony took place in St. Patrick’s church, Rev. Father Lynch officiating. The bride was attired in a costume of cream silk, trimmed with pearls, and carried a bouquet of white roses. She was attended by her sisters, Misses Marie and Jenny Kennedy as bridesmaid and maid of honor respectively, the former prettily attired in a gown of cream cashmere trimmed with mauve silk. The groomsman was Thos. Flynn of Toronto. After a few hours joyously spent with a few invited friends at the residence of the bride’s parents, the newly-wedded couple left on the evening train for Buffalo, New York and other eastern points.

COPELAND-COULSON - Yesterday a young Englishman named Harry Copeland, who has been working for J. Ira Flatt, M.P.P. at Lowville, ran away with Miss Maggie Coulson, daughter of a farmer in that vicinity. The young couple came to Hamilton and were married and they proceeded to St. Catharines to spend the honeymoon with friends there. The bride’s friends were opposed to the match, but the bridegroom is well spoken of by the residents of that village and is evidently a young man of enterprise.

 

Wednesday, September 11

 

WEBB-JACKSON - At the home of the bride Sheaffe street on Tuesday Sept. 10, by Rev. J.R. Webb, of Toronto assisted by Rev. J. VanWyck, of Hamilton, William P. Webb to Louie, eldest daughter of the late Sydney Jackson, Esq.


   A pleasant event occurred at 25 Jackson street on Tuesday evening being the marriage of Miss Louie Jackson to W.P. Webb, of the Spectator. The ceremony was performed by Rev. J.R. Webb, pastor of the Annett street Baptist church, West Toronto, assisted by Rev. J. VanWyck of Hamilton. The bride was assisted by Miss Lizzie Jackson and the groom by H. Jackson. The bride’s gown was of cream cashmere and she carried white roses. Many and costly were the presents to the bride. Friends from New York, Toronto, Newmarket and elsewhere were present. Mr. and Mrs. Webb left on the 6:47 train for some points in New York state.

FORREST-PATTERSON (Dundas) - Miss Bella Forrest and Rev. J. Patterson were on Wednesday married by Rev. John Wakefield. Miss Forrest was the recipient of some handsome presents from the various societies of the Methodist church of which she was an active member.

 

FREEMAN-SMITH (Hannon) - Rufus Freeman was united in the holy bonds of matrimony yesterday in Hamilton to Lucy, youngest daughter of John Smith.

 

ST. JOHN-GRIFFIN (Fulton) - On Wednesday last Miss Netta St. John was married to A. Griffin. The bridal pair, accompanied by a sister of the bride and a brother of the groom are visiting towns and cities in the east.

 

MCLURE-THOMPSON (Sheffield) - Peter McLure, brother of the ex-warden, was married last week to Miss Thompson of Orkney. The newly wedded couple have the best wishes of the community for their future happiness.

Thursday, September 19

 

DAVIDSON-STEWART  - At the residence of the bride’s mother, Binbrook, on Sept. 11th by the Rev. William P. Walker, Isabell, youngest daughter of the late Mr. John Stewart, to David Davidson, Esq., Glanford.


   The marriage of David Davidson of Glanford, to Bella Stewart of Binbrook, celebrated on Sept. 11, was attended by a large party of friends and well-wishers, and was a very enjoyable meeting. Rev. W.P. Walker tied the knot, the sixth tied by him in the family. Miss McGregor, Caledonia played the wedding march. The bride and bridegroom were accompanied by the Misses Davidson, Wright and Stewart, bridesmaids and Messrs. Dalgleish and Berry, groomsmen.  The presents were many and handsome. The large wedding party was photographed after the ceremony and a sumptuous supper enjoyed, and the young couple left for a marriage trip.

 

CARPENTER-WYLIE - On Wednesday, Sept. 18th, at the residence of the bride’s father, 21 Grange avenue, Toronto, by the Rev. W.G. Wallace, Frederick A. Carpenter, of the firm Carpenter and Ramsay, Hamilton, to Beatrice Weylie, youngest daughter of Robt. J. Weylie.

   Fred  A. Carpenter, of the hardware firm of Carpenter & Ramsay, York street, Hamilton, was married to Miss Beatrice Weylie of 21 Grange avenue, this city, yesterday. The bridesmaid was Miss Annie Weylie, sister of the bride and H. Carpenter, brother of the groom, was best man. The wedding which took place at the residence of the bride’s parents was a quiet one, only the immediate relatives of the young couple being invited.  After an eastern tour the young couple will reside on Hess street south, Hamilton.

 

OAKSHOTT-LEGGAT - At St. Paul’s church on the 18th inst., by the Rev. Principal Grant, D.D. Queen’s University, Arthur John Oakshott, Liverpool, England, to Elizabeth Strathearn, second daughter of Matthew Leggat of this city. 

 

PURDON-PECKHAM - (Niagara Falls) Sept 18 - St Stephen’s Anglican church was to-day 

GUERIN-PECKHAM     the scene of a very pretty and interesting double wedding The contracting parties were John H. Purdon and Miss M.E. Peckham and John J. Guerin and Miss Ellen L. Peckham. The brides are the daughters of Ald. John H. Peckham of the north ward, and both are well and favorably known throughout the town and vicinity. Mr. Purdon is in the employ of the Grand Trunk and is a son of Percy Purdon, mail clerk on the Grand Trunk railway. Mr. Guerin is in business in Detroit and is the son of Mr. Guerin in Hamilton, a former and well known resident of Niagara Falls. The church was handsomely decorated and presented a most delightful appearance. After the ceremony, which took place at 10:30 a.m., the young people left by the 2:45 p.m. train for the west amidst a shower of rice and good wishes from their friends, who had gathered at the depot to bid them bon voyage on the sea of life.

 

Friday, September 20

 

QUINN-MOSCRIP - A Peterboro dispatch has the following: Last evening Rev. Dr. Torrance united in marriage Wm. Quinn, local inspector for the Bell Telephone company, formerly of Hamilton and Miss Ray Moscrip. The ceremony was celebrated at the residence of the bride’s mother, Miss Edith McKee being bridesmaid and T. Williams the best man. The happy couple left for a honeymoon trip westward.

 

LEGACY-JOHNSON (Ohsweken) George Legacy (white), a tenant on our reserve, has at last come to the conclusion that singleness is not to his advantage; accordingly Miss Johnson (also white) from Ohio has been singled out as a fine and proper person to attend to his household duties and to cast in her lot with Mr. Legacy. The ceremony was performed by Rev. W. Walker of the Grand River Methodist mission.

 

FREEMAN-SMITH - A few days ago Rufus Freeman of Binbrook, was married to Miss Lucy Smith of Glanford. The groom is 72 and the bride 20. Last night the young men serenaded the couple.

GLASLEY-OXLEY (Canfield, Ont.) - George Glasley, of North Cayuga, was married last Monday to Miss Lily Oxley, of the same place. The happy couple took the morning train to London on their wedding tour.

MARSHALL-SMITH - At the Hannah street Methodist church on the 24th inst. by the Rev. John Kay, assisted by the Rev. G.W. Kerby, B.A. and the Rev. Edson Marshall, B.A., Alice A. , second daughter of J. H. Smith, P.S. Inspector, to Rev. Sanford E. Marshall B.A., B.D., of St Catharines.

   The marriage of Rev. Sanford E. Marshall, B.A. , B.D., of St Catharines and Miss Alice A. Smith, Mus. Bac., second daughter of J. H. Smith, P.S. Inspector was celebrated in the Hannah street Methodist church yesterday afternoon at half-past six o’clock, in the presence of a large number of guests and friends of the contracting parties.The ceremony was performed by Rev. John Kay, pastor of the church, assisted by Rev. G.W. Kerby, B.A., of St. Catharines, and Rev.Edson E. Marshall B.A., brother of the groom. The bride wore a handsome reception gown, with a white picture hat and carried a shower bouquet of white carnations. She was escorted to the altar by her father, the organist playing the bridal chorus from Lohengrin. The bridesmaids were Miss Louise and Miss Anna, sisters of the bride and the groom was attended by Rev. F.W. Holinbroke, B.A. of Hamilton. Lyman Marshall, brother of the groom and Herbert, Elmer and Fred Smith, cousins of the bride acted as ushers. The church was beautifully decorated with palms and cut flowers by the members of the Epworth League of C.E in which society the bride was an active worker. At the conclusion of the ceremony the bridal party and guests left the church to the strains of Mendelssohn’s Wedding March and were entertained at the home of the bride’s parents Rose Terrace.

   Mr. and Mrs. Marshall left on the 9 o’clock train by the G.T.R. carrying with them the best wishes and heart congratulations of their friends. The bride was the recipient of many presents,  among which were an upright piano, the gift of her parents and an elegant easy chair from her co-workers in the Epworth League of C.E.

   During the day telegrams and letters of congratulation were received from distant friends, who were unable to be present.

HEWITT-MITCHELL - On Wednesday, Oct. 9, the residence of John R. Hewitt, of Binbrook was the scene of a very happy event, being the marriage of his eldest daughter, Jennie, to Frederick Mitchell, of Seneca. The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. W.M. Cook, of Caistorville.  The bride looked quite charming and was attended by her sister Isabella, while G. Mitchell, brother of the groom, acted as best man. Many pretty and useful presents were received by the bride. Guests to the number of seventy sat down to an excellent supper, after which the young folks enjoyed themselves to the music of the violin. The following morning the bride and groom took the train for the west, where they will spend their honeymoon visiting friends.

GRIFFEN-ROBINSON - At Centenary church this afternoon Dr. Griffen was married to Miss Robinson, daughter of W.A. Robinson.

 

GABEL-HYSLOP - There was an interesting wedding in the township on Oct.9, when F. Lloyd Gabel, only son of the late Frank Gabel, was united to Jennie, second daughter of David A Hyslop. The marriage took place at Orchard Hill, the residence of the bride’s father. There was a numerous company of the older branches of the friends and relatives of both families, together with a considerable number of the younger members also. The officiating minister was Rev. I.B. Hamilton, of the Presbyterian church. The bride was attended by Miss Martha Hyslop, sister of the bride, and Miss Kate Gabel, sister of the groom. The bride was dressed in silver gray silk, richly trimmed with lace and passemterie, and carried a bouquet of white carnations. The bridesmaids were prettily attired in cream cashmere, with lace and satin trimmings. The groom was attended by B. Lloyd-Jones, of Brantford, cousin of the groom, and Andrew Hyslop, of Stratford, brother of the bride. After the ceremony the company sat down to an excellent breakfast, to which ample justice was done. The presents consisted of a numerous collection of the useful and ornamental, showing the esteem in which they are held by their many friends. The party left for a short easterly trip amid a shower of rice and congratulations of the company.

Miss Ruby Monroe was the bridesmaid and James McCormick of Toronto assisted the groom. There were many friends present and a good time was held until the departure of Mr. and Mrs. Frank for a short sojourn to the lower province. The bridegroom is cashier at the Grand Trunk freight office and the bride is the organist at the Simcoe street Methodist church.

BIRD-DORR - On Wednesday evening at Fairview farm, Barton, Miss Nellie Bird, daughter of W. and Mrs. Bird was married to Frederick Dorr of Ancaster. The ceremony was performed by Rev. W.R. Clark, of Ancaster, in the presence of a large gathering of friends. Miss Jennie Hossack, of Glanford, was bridesmaid, and John Dorr supported his brother. Bride and bridesmaid in gowns of nun’s veiling and carried bouquets of carnations. The presents included useful as well as costly and decorative articles and the number of them indicated the general feeling of good-will and esteem with which the young couple are regarded by their neighbors. The groom’s gifts to the bride and her maid were handsome gold pins. The guests present numbered nearly a hundred and they were suitably entertained after the ceremony.

   F.B. Greening of the firm of Bickle & Greening was married yesterday afternoon in New York to Miss Florence Laura Robinson, granddaughter of Charles Knox, the celebrated hatter.

 

GURNEY-RYCKMAN - Miss Mabel Gurney, daughter of Edward Gurney of Toronto, was married yesterday to E.B. Ryckman, barrister. Rev. James Allen officiated.

 

MARTIN-COOK (Aylmer, Ont.) Oct. 30 - A farmer named James Martin, living near Lyons, was arrested last night, charged with the seduction of Alvina Cook, of Lyons. The charge was laid under the Charlton act. Martin came before Police Magistrate McDiarmid to-day. No evidence was taken, as the magistrate agreed to allow him to go free on condition that he married the girl which he did.

 

CHAPMAN-OSBORNE - At the Church of the Ascension yesterday afternoon in the presence of their immediate friends and relatives William Woodburn Osborne and Miss Kate Elizabeth Chapman were proclaimed man and wife. The bride is the eldest daughter of the late A.T. Chapman of London Ont. and the groom is a well known barrister of the city. Rev. W.H. Wade, rector of Ascension performed the ceremony, assisted by the Very Rev. G.N. Innes, D.D., dean of Huron. The wedding took place at 3 o’clock and the attendance of guests was very large. After the service at the church was concluded the guests were entertained at the residence of the bride’s mother, Argyle terrace, Herkimer street. The wedding presents were many and beautiful.

   At the conclusion of the reception the newly wedded young couple took the afternoon train for the east, bearing with them the best wishes of their many friends.

   A pleasant home wedding took place on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the residence of David Brown, 349 South Waller avenue, when his daughter Elizabeth Drummond, was married to James Tait Craig. Rev. J. Clark Hill performed the ceremony in his usual impressive manner. Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. A.S. Craig of Hamilton, Ont;........ The bride was the recipient of many beautiful and useful presents. The young couple, after an extended eastern trip, will take up  their residence at Oak Park.

The ceremony was performed by Rev. Wray Smith of Stony Creek, assisted by Rev. Mr. VanWyck, in the presence of a few friends of the couple.    At five o’clock yesterday afternoon at the residence of H.T. Drope, 205 Market street, Miss Lida Morris, daughter of the late Wm. Morris, was married to Geo. S. Kerr, the well-known young barrister. Rev. Dr. Brethour, of Zion tabernacle, performed the ceremony, which was witnessed by the near relatives of the contracting parties. Miss Kerr, sister of the groom, was bridesmaid and W.T. Evans was groomsman. After the ceremony a wedding lunch was partaken of and in the evening the young couple left for Cleveland and other eastern points. The popularity of the bride among her many friends was easily seen from the array of costly wedding gifts from far and near.

STUDDART-GATES - The Livonia N.Y. Gazette has the following account of the wedding of Col. Studdart, of this city, to Miss gates of that place. “On Wednesday Nov. 20, a very pleasant event took place at Oak Lodge, on the occasion of the marriage of the daughter of James Gates, May A. to Col. Ion N. Studdart, I.R. light artillery corps. After the marriage service which was celebrated at high noon by the Rev. H.F. Darnell, D.D., the guests partook of the most delightful wedding breakfast, at which appropriate toasts were given and responded to. The bride was beautifully dressed in brown peau-de-sol, combined with corn-colored brocade, lavishly trimmed with lace. The house was handsomely decorated with white and yellow chrysanthemums, intermingled with carnations and smilax. Among the guests present from out of town were Miss Studdart of Hamilton; Miss J. H. Costello, Pa., and Dr. and Mrs. Darnell of Avon. Col. and Mrs. Studdart left in the evening for Buffalo, en route to their home in Hamilton.

STEWART-IRELAND (Millgrove) - Our popular teacher, James E. Stewart, was married Thursday evening to Miss Mabel Ireland, of Nelson, daughter of John Ireland, one of the best farmers in the township of Nelson, and she is one of the best girls in the township.

STEWART-IRELAND - The residence of Mr. and Mrs. John Ireland, of “Oak Ridge Farm” Nelson, was the scene last Thursday evening, Dec. 19, of one of the prettiest weddings of the season. It was the marriage of their daughter, Mabel, to Jas. Stewart, of Millgrove.

   The knot was tied by Rev. Mr. Seaman, of Lowville, rector of the English church. Miss Flo. Ireland, Miss Laura Springer and Miss Maggie Fothergill were the bridesmaids, while the groom was attended by Geo. Creene, James Meyers and Major Langs.

   The bride was tastefully attired in a cream crepon dress, trimmed with cream silk lace and ribbon. She also wore orange blossoms and carried a beautiful bouquet of white roses. The bridesmaids, with their handsome bouquets of primroses, chrysanthemums and pink roses, were robed in pretty cream cashmere dresses.

   Guests to the number of over one hundred were present from Hamilton, Middleport, London, Waterdown, Burlington, Nelson, Lowville, Milton, Toronto and other points. The presents were numerous and valuable, a special feature being a handsome plush dressing case given to Mr. Stewart by his class of Millgrove school. The evening was spent in a most pleasant and sociable way with games, conversations, recitations, songs and music.

   Mr. and Mrs. Stewart left on the same evening for Hamilton, London and the west, amid the usual showers of rice and best wishes of their friends.

   A large circle of friends and relatives met together on Christmas eve to witness the marriage of Miss Mary J. Ward, third daughter of the late Thos. Ward to David Hogg, both of this city. The ceremony was performed in St. Luke’s church by Rev. Wm. Massey, M.A. The bride was attended by Miss Sarah McGuire and Miss Ethel Andrews, and the groom by Mr. Leadbeater of Buffalo. After the ceremony the friends assembled at the residence of the bride’s mother, at the rear of 149 Wood street east, where supper was in readiness. After supper the bride’s and groom’s health was toasted with the best wishes for their future happiness. The rest of the evening was taken up with songs and games. The bride and groom were the recipients of many useful and handsome presents.

 

KITCHEN-THOMPSON - On Tuesday at high noon, at the residence of the bride’s parents, Ancaster, Miss Sara Kitchen, became the wife of Wm. Thompson of Beverly. The ceremony was performed by Rev. T. Wilkinson, of Copetown, and about 60 guests were present. The young couple went on a wedding tour to points in Michigan.

 

KENT-MAHONEY - Last night a large circle of friends met at the residence of Hamilton Cooper, Jackson street west, to witness the marriage of George M. Kent to Miss Hattie Mahoney, sister of Mrs. Cooper. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Dr. Philp, assisted by Rev. Mr. Prescott. The bride was attended by Miss Fanny Gillan and the groom by John Ennis. The company adjourned to a sumptuous repast and toasted the bride and groom. The evening was very pleasantly spent in speeches and song. The bride was the recipient of many handsome presents. The newly married couple left for their home on Emerald street north amid a shower of rice and the best wishes of the guests. FREEMAN-AIKENS - (Hannon) Miss Ada Freeman and Emerson Aikens and also the FREEMAN-MARTIN    former’s sister, Miss Ella Freeman and Maitland Martin were quietly married in the Methodist church parsonage at Hall’s Corners by the pastor Rev. Mr. Livingstone on Christmas. The newly wedded four left on Thursday for the west on their honeymoon.
