MURPHY-HALL - On Wednesday, Jan 22 1896, at the
residence of the bride’s parents, 279 MacNab st. north, by the Rev. Dr. Philp,
Miss Dorothy Hall, daughter of Mr. John Hall, to R. Murphy, both of Hamilton.
Robert Murphy, the genial and ever
obliging clerk of the Canadian Express company’s offices in Hamilton, has
decided to trot along in double harness in future, and on Wednesday last he was
married by Rev. Dr. Philp to Miss Dorothy Hall, third daughter of John Hall,
locomotive foreman of the Grand Trunk. The wedding took place at the residence
of the bride’s parents, 279 MacNab st. north, and was witnessed by only the
immediate relatives and friends of the happy pair. Numerous and costly presents
showed in what good esteem both young people are held by their friends.

BELL-GARDNER - On Feb 5th, by Rev.

John Gardner, to Dr. J.W. Bell.
Last evening at 8:30, Miss Minnie
Gardner, youngest daughter of John Gardner, King William street, was wedded to
Dr. J.W. Bell, Dentist, of James street north. The ceremony took place at the
residence of the bride’s brother, 19 Grant avenue, and was witnessed by a small
party of invited guests. Rev. W.E. Prescott was the officiating clergyman. Miss
Gardner was assisted by Misses Ada Grffith and Annie Stoneham, as bridesmaids,
and Gertie Gardner, and Mamie Harris as maids of Honor. The best men were Dr.
Kinsman, and Thos. Gardner. A wedding supper was served after the ceremony and
the festivities were continued till an early hour. The gifts to the bride were
of a most handsome character, and as numerous as they were beautiful.
BERSEE-NEW - On Wednesday Feb 6, 1896, at the
residence of the bride’s uncle, Mr. Henry New, 124 Hunter st. west, by the Rev.
T.J. Bennett, Miss Sarah A. New, to A. Ernest Bersee, all of Hamilton.
HARRIGAN-SKELLY - On Wednesday, Feb. 5, by the
Rev. Chancellor Craven, assisted by Rev. Father O’Reilly, Mary A. Skelly to
Francis Harrigan. No cards.
At St. Patrick’s Church last
evening, Miss Mary A. Skelly was married to Francis Harrigan by Rev. Chancellor
Graven, assisted by Rev. Father O’Reilly. The bride was given away by her
brother, J. Skelly. Miss Hynes of Toronto was the bridesmaid, and H.P.
McGarrity assisted the groom.

GILBERT-TREW - On Thursday, at Trinity Memorial
church, Cornwall, Miss S.A. Gilbert, formerly of Dundas, was married to Walter
T. Trew, of Cornwall. The ceremony took place at 10:30 in the morning, and was
performed by Rural Dean Houston. Mrs. Houston presided at the organ, and played
the wedding march, while the choir sang psalms and hymns. The bride looked
pretty indeed in her travelling dress of golden brown ladies cloth, with velvet
of a deeper shade, and wore a pretty toque to match. Her bridesmaid was Miss
F.M. Pearfield, of this city, who was also suitably gowned in sage green Amazon
cloth, with fur trimming and hat to match, while the little maid of honour,
Miss Bertha Sugden, niece of the bride, was daintily dressed in cream. All
carried white bridal roses. The bride and bridesmaid each wore a handsome
silver bracelet, the gift of the groom.
The groom was attended by George
Pettit, barrister, son of Canon Pettit, rector of Trinity Church. The happy
couple left on the afternoon train for Montreal, where they will spend their
honeymoon. They were the recipients of many handsome presents. A pretty feature
of the wedding was the ringing of the peal of bells, so seldom heard in this
country.

CAMPBELL-AGNEW (Mountsberg) - At the residence
of David Campbell last Wednesday, his sister, Miss Lizzie, and George Agnew of
Nassagaweya, were married. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Mr. Blair. The
bride was assisted by Miss Maggie Dillon, of Guelph, while the wants of the
groom were looked after by Hugh Lynn. After the usual congratulations the party
repaired to the dining room and sat down to a sumptuous repast. The bride
received many valuable presents.
REAUME-BASTIEN - Antoine Reaume, of Anderdon
and Matilda Bastien of Amsherstburg, have joined hearts and hands. The groom is
68 and the bride is 76 years old.

the eldest son of Cyrus Smith, Glanford, was united to Laveria, eldest daughter
of Thomas Heslop. The ceremony was performed at the home of the bride, Rev. J.
Kelly officiating. The groom was assisted by William Daniels, of Ancaster, and
the bride by Miss Annie Smith, and Miss Maudie Heslop. Friends to the number of
about sixty were present to watch the happy event. After a sumptuous repast,
the newly-wedded couple left amid the well wishes of the crowd for a trip to
New York.
REED-JACOBS (Hannon) - Thomas Reed, who is
employed on the H.and N.W. section here, was married on St. Patrick’s day to
Miss Ada Jacobs, of South Grimsby.

Charles Teif. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Wm. Robertson. The bride
was assisted by Miss Mary Scott, while the wants of the groom were looked after
by D. Hanning. Only relatives and a few intimate friends of the family
witnessed the ceremony. The bride received many valuable and useful presents.

LAMBIER-NICHOLSON - A very happy event took
place at the residence of Charles Lambier, of East Flamboro, on the evening of
April 2, it being the marriage of his eldest daughter, Mary, to Alfred
Nicholson, of Stoney Creek, Rev. J.E. Hockey, of Millgrove, officiating. The
bride was handsomely attired in fawn poplin silk, with lace and pearl
trimmings, and was efficiently assisted by her sister, Miss Clara, whose dress
was a cream poplin silk, with lace trimmings. The groom was supported by Samuel
Nash of Stoney Creek. After partaking of a most sumptuous repast the guests
indulged in toasts and speech-making.
Many handsome and valuable gifts
were received by the bride, among others a cheque for $1000 from her father.

MCCOY-NOTTLE - At the residence of the bride’s

youngest daughter of the late J.T. Nottle, to Edward McCoy, of this city. No

Last night at the residence of Mrs.
J. Nottle, 95 Wentworth st. south, her youngest daughter, Miss Annie J. Nottle,
was married to Edward McCoy, traveller for Lucas, Steele, & Bristol. The
bride looked beautiful, being attired in white silk and pearls. She was
attended by her sister Laurel, and the groom was assisted by his brother, David
McCoy. The presents were numerous and handsome. The supper was prepared by B.
Edwards, caterer. Sweet music was dispensed by Anderson’s Orchestra. The happy
couple left for the west on the 11:48 train, followed by the best wishes of
their many friends. Mrs. McCoy will be at home after April 20th.
ARTHUR-GALLOWAY - There was a fashionable in
the Presbyterian church at Strabane last evening, when Miss Maggie Arthur,
daughter of Samuel Arthur, was wedded to Ernest Galloway of Freelton. The
ceremony was performed by Rev. J.D. Cameron in the presence of a large number
of the friends of the young people. The presents to the bride included a
handsome Bible from the managers of the church, the bride having being a
prominent member of the Christian Endeavor.
EATON-TANSLEY - A very happy event took place
at the residence of Albert and Mrs. Eaton of Carlisle, last evening, it being
the marriage of their eldest daughter Emma, to Joseph E. Tansley, of East
Flamboro. The ceremony was performed by Rev. J. Mooney in the presence of a
large company of relatives and friends of the contracting parties. The bride
was handsomely attired in cream crepon, and was assisted by her sister Annie.
The groom was supported by Robert Gartle. After an excellent supper, toasts
were proposed and speeches made by several. The presents to the bride were
numerous, and of superior quality. She was the recipient of a very handsome
gold watch, a gift of W.O.Sealey and wife, of East Flamboro.

HUGHES-O’CONNOR - Miss May Eveline Hughes,
daughter of Patrick Hughes, married to Jas. O’Connor, of Ottawa, in Toronto
yesterday.
SANGER-PEW - Last evening the residence of E.
Sanger, Hess street north, was a scene of a very pleasant gathering, the
occasion being the wedding of Miss Nellie Sanger, and Austin Pew of this city.
Rev. J. Van Wyck performed the ceremony. The bride was attired in cream poplin
with pearls and chiffon trimmings and was supported by her sister Lizzie. The
groom was assisted by his brother Rolland. The presents to the bride were
numerous, handsome, and useful. After a pleasant evening enjoyment the
newly-married couple were driven to their new home on Vine street.

RUTLEY-MCKENZIE - The marriage of Miss Della
Rutley formerly of this city, to Lachlan McKenzie, of 388 Victoria avenue
north, was a society event of Depew of N.Y., on Monday last. Miss Rutley is a
former Hamilton girl, having been a valued member of Simcoe st. church choir.
Her father moved to Depew some time ago to accept a position in the N.Y.C.
Oarshops. Mr. McKenzie went to Depew to claim his bride, and the wedding
occurred at the home of her parents. The groomsman was William Johnston, of
Hamilton, and Miss Marion Rutley, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid. Miss L.
Leckie, 105 Smith avenue and Miss Minnie Clench, of Buffalo, and formerly of
Hamilton, were among the invited guests at the wedding. The bride was dressed
in a grey tweed travelling costume with pearl trimmings. She carried white
carnations. The bridesmaids costume was brown, with cream lace trimmings and
pink and white carnations. The wedding gifts to the bride were many and
valuable. The young couple left on the afternoon train for Hamilton and their
new home on Victoria avenue north.

RUSSELL-COOK - At 2 o’clock this afternoon, at
St. Thomas’ church, A.G. Russell, the well-known oboe player of the Harris
orchestra, and King street jeweller, was married to Mrs. Sarah Cook of 405 King
street east. Rev. Canon Curran was the officiating clergyman, and there was a
large attendance of invited guests, friends of both bride and groom. David
Anderson, one of Mr. Russell’s fellows of the Harris orchestra, was best man
and Misses Flossie and Gracie Cook, daughters of the bride, and Miss Russell,
daughter of the groom, were bridesmaids. After the ceremony a wedding supper
was served at the residence of the bride, and the happy couple departed on the
evening train for a short honeymoon trip. The wedding gifts were many and
handsome.

MILLER-MARACLE (Ohsweken) - Jacob Miller,
merchant of Ohsweken, has taken to himself a better half. Miss K. Maracle,
teacher of No. 2 school, is the lucky belle. The affair was kept so quiet that
two or three weeks elapsed before the public was aware of the fact. However,
the boys were not to be imposed upon. They gathered at his residence and began
to charivari him.

KNAPP-GOODCHILD (Windsor) May 10 - This is an
elopement story that came from Harrow to-day. Daniel Knapp, of Harrow, became
engaged to be married to Miss Annie Goodchild, of Malden township, near
Amherstburg, and Thursday was the day set for the wedding. When young Knapp
called at the house of his affianced, where the ceremony was to be held, he was
met by the girl’s brother, who pointed a revolver at his head and ordered him
to leave. He did so. Miss Goodchild, however, not to be outwitted secured
permission to visit a neighbour, but met her lover instead, and the two at once
drove to Harrow, where they were speedily made one.

the residence of the bride, Michael Welch and Mrs. Mary Mast, widow the late B.
Mast, were united in marriage by Rev. Mr. Sauer, in the presence of a few
intimate friends of the contracting parties. The happy couple take up residence
in the village of Morriston.

of the week was the wedding at the home of Mrs. George Leach on Wednesday
afternoon, when rev. J. S. Conning united in marriage two well-known people of
this place - Fred Burrows and Miss Belle Leach, third daughter of the late
George Leach. Friends from Toronto, Hamilton and Cayuga were present. Mr and
Mrs. Burrows left on the evening train for the west. They will locate at
Tyneside on their return, at which place the bridegroom has gone into the
manufacturing business - by permission of the N.P.

Binbrook, Ont., Mr. Robert Burns, of Caistor, Ont., to Miss Tillie Ridge,
daughter of John Ridge, Esq.
At Devonico Farm, Binbrook, the
residence of the bride’s father a very pretty wedding took place yesterday, the
contracting parties being, Robert Burns, of Caistor, and Miss Tillie, J.
youngest daughter of John Ridge. The bridesmaid was Miss Ida Edwards, of
Seneca, and James Ridge, brother of the bride, was best man. About 100 guests
attended the wedding. The presents were particularly numerous and elegant. The
happy couple left, amid a shower of rice and old boots, for a few days trip to
the West.

At St. Peter’s church yesterday
afternoon, Rev. Thomas Geoghegan, in the presence of the necessary tied the
knot that made Miss Frances Lawson, daughter of a well known Beverly farmer,
the wife of Albert Hils of West Flamboro. Mr. Hils is the son of George Hils of
Beverly, and has lately purchased his farm in Flamboro, to which he will take
his bride and begin married life with the brightest of prospects.
ALMAS-MARSHALL - At the residence of the
bride’s father, Alexander Marshall, Glanford, by the Rev. Jos. Archer, and Rev.
T.G. Thomson, on June 24, James W, Almas, of this city, to Louise Marshall.
At Rose Hall, Glanford, the
residence of Alexander Marshall, last evening, his daughter, Miss Louise
Marshall, was married to James Almas, of Hamilton. The ceremony was performed
by Rev. Joseph Archer of St. Catharines, assisted by Rev. T.G. Thompson, of
Hamilton. About 75 guests were present, and a great many pretty and useful
gifts were received by the young couple. The bridesmaid was Miss Sadie
Marshall; Charlie Almas was best man. Mr. and Mrs. Almas will take up their
residence in Hamilton.
SLATER-ATTRIDGE - At the residence of the
bride’s brother William Attridge, Chestnut Lawn, Waterdown, by the Rev. J.H.
Collins, on June 24, Miss Annie Attridge, to John C. Slater both of Waterdown.
Yesterday, at Chestnut Lawn,
Waterdown, the residence of William Attridge, brother of the bride, Miss Annie
M. Attridge, was married to John C. Slater, lumber merchant. Nearly 200 guests
assembled to witness the ceremony, which was performed by J.H. Collins. The
bride was attired in brocade silk, with pearl ornaments, and point d’espirt
lace, with the customary veil and orange blossoms, and carried a bouquet of
Marechal Neil roses. The bride was given away by her brother. The bridesmaids
were Miss Lillian Vance, and Miss Lou Attridge, who were becoming gowned in cream
henrietta and carried bouquets of pink roses. Little Nellie Attridge was maid
of honour and looked very pretty. Robert Allen, of Waterdown, and Walter G.
Thompson, of Hamilton, were best men. Supper was served in a large marquee on
the lawn, and was followed by the usual toasts, all of which were well and
happily responded to. The number of presents to the bride testified to the high
esteem in which the young couple are held. The groom’s presents to the
bridesmaids were handsome gold pins. A very enjoyable evening was spent, when
at a late hour the happy couple left amid showers of rice.
STEWART-FRASER - On Wednesday, June 24, at the
residence of the bride’s parents, 61 Wentworth st. south, Hamilton, by the Rev.
Dr. Abraham, Walter H. Stewart, architect, third son of William Stewart, Esq.,
architect, to Marguerite, youngest daughter of Alexander Fraser.
BECKINGHAM-TINDILL - On June 24th,
at the residence of the bride’s mother, King st. east, by the Rev. H.S. Beavis,
John Beckingham, Jr., eldest son of Assistant Chief Beckingham, of the Montreal
Fire Department, to Jessie Reynoldson, twin daughter of the late W.M. Tindill.
A pleasant event took place
yesterday afternoon at the residence of Mrs. Tindill, King street east, it
being the marriage of her daughter Jessie R, to John Beckingham Jr., son of the
assistant chief of the Montreal fire department. The bridesmaid was Miss Kitty
Tindill, sister of the bride, the groom being assisted by S. Reid, of Montreal.
The wedding, which was a very pretty one, was witnessed by only a few of the
bride’s relatives. The presents to the bride were numerous.
The happy couple left on their
honeymoon trip by the evening train for Ottawa, from whence they will proceed
to Montreal their future home.
BURKHOLDER-REID - On the 24th inst.
at the Church of St. Thomas, by the Rev. Canon Curran, M.A. Bertha Belle, only
daughter of John G.Y. Burkholder, and granddaughter of the late Col. John Land,
to David Reid, of Cornell University, Ithica, N. Y.
In St. Thomas’ church yesterday,
Prof. David Reid, of Cornell University, was married to Miss Bertha Belle
Burkholder, daughter of J.G.Y. Burkholder, and granddaughter of Col. John Land.
The bridesmaids were Miss Gertie Land, Miss Mabel Lucas, and Miss Urla Webster,
cousins of the bride. Miss Allan of Toronto, was the maid of honour. J. Judd
Mason, of this city was best man. There was a large attendance of friends and
relatives.
MARTIN-CLARK - In the presence of the relatives
of the family yesterday afternoon, Miss Emily Martin, eldest daughter of the
late Richard Martin, Q.C. Derreclare, and Oliver S. Clark, manager of the Bank
of Hamilton branch at Berlin, were united in marriage. Rev. W,H. Wade of the
Church of Ascension, officiated, and was assisted by Rev. Thomas Smith of
Elora, uncle of the bride. Misses Louisa, Georgina, and Maud Martin, sisters of
the bride, were the bridesmaids, and Miss Kathleen Lyon, of Toronto, was maid
of honour. J.H. Stuart, manager of the Bank of Hamilton Branch, Listowel
performed the duties of best man.
The bride was dressed in white and
looked charming. After the ceremony, the wedding breakfast was partaken of
under a marquee erected on the lawn, and the happy couple left on the evening
train for Toronto, on route to Winnipeg, where they will spend their honeymoon.
Mr. and Mrs. will reside in Berlin on returning from their trip. The presents
to the bride were numerous and valuable.
ZIMMERMAN-MORGAN - J.A. Zimmerman, a popular
druggist, was married this afternoon to Miss L.E. Morgan, and estimable young
lady, daughter of the late B.J. Morgan. The wedding took place at the residence
of the bride’s mother, corner East avenue and Hunter street. Rev. Canon Curran,
of St. Thomas’ church performed the ceremony. Miss Emma Morgan sister of the bride,
acted as bridesmaid, and T.F. Dick was best man.
GAGE-CONDY - Yesterday Miss Addie Gage,
daughter of Mrs. Philip Gage, of Barton was married to Adam Condy. The ceremony
took place at the residence of the bride’s mother, and was performed by Rev.
Mr. Stobbs, of Hamilton. The bride was assisted by Miss Clara Smith of Winona,
her cousin, and Miss Ettie Condy, sister of the groom, while the groom was
supported by his brother R. Condy.
Davis furnished the refreshments,
which were served in a large tent on the lawn. As both the young people are
very popular their friends sent them many beautiful presents. Mr. and Mrs.
Condy left for Cleveland and other points on the evening train. At the close of
the marriage service Rev. Mr. Stobbs’ services were solicited for the
christening of Miss Ida May, daughter of Frank D. and Iola Gage.
FITZGERALD-WETMORE - Judge Fitzgerald of Port
Arthur, will be married at Christ Church cathedral, Fredericton, N.B., on June
30, to Miss Wetmore.
