JOHNS-BREEZE - (Brantford)
A wedding long to be remembered took place at the house of Robert Breeze of
Eagle Place yesterday afternoon. The occasion was the marriage of Miss Addie
Breeze to Henry Johns. Everyone knows of the flood which submerged Eagle Place
on Christmas evening and Christmas day. The only way of moving about was by
boat, and owing to floating sidewalks, etc., even this was very difficult.
Early in the day, the wedding cake was seen coming on its perilous journey.
Many transfers were necessary, but at length it reached its destination safely.
The guests next began to turn their attention to the possibility of reaching
the scene of the wedding in time and one might be seen coming on a piece of
floating sidewalk, another hopping from one little island to another and others
in boats.
Towards the hour
appointed for the wedding to take place the rector of St. Jude's who was to
perform the ceremony appeared on the north shore of the newly formed lake
looking somewhat grave as he thought of the dangerous voyage ahead. A small
boat, was awaiting him, but he was evidently labouring under a dread of a
possible cold bath. However he stepped aboard and was in due course landed on
the other shore, the doorstep of Mr. Breeze's house. Notwithstanding all these
difficulties, there was a happy gathering and at 5 o'clock the ceremony was
performed which made two the happiest of all. The bride was beautifully dressed
in cream and was attended by Miss Ada Hoggin of Toronto as bridesmaid.
