BLUE-WARNER - For
the past few weeks the usually calm and unruffled waters of society among our
most estimable coloured fellow citizens have been stirred to their utmost
profundity by the anticipation of an event which was brought to a most enviable
consummation this morning at the MacNab Street Baptist Church and which was
nothing more than the matrimonial alliance of Mr. John Blue of Chicago with
Miss Rebecca Warner of this city and till now organist of the above church. The
building was filled with a very respectable audience comprising several of the
most respectable coloured citizens of Hamilton. On the arrival of the bridal
party, Professor Jones thundered out Mendelsohn's wedding march and other
festive airs on the organ, the music reverberating through the lofty aides of
the church and the imaginative spectator might fancy he saw innumerable cupids
flitting through the melody-impregnated atmosphere or sitting ensconced on the
gilded cornices and richly carved and ornamented Corinthian pillars of the edifice,
The wedding party, on entering, passed on to the east end of the church where
the pastor,
Rev. Mr. Moore,
was in readiness to receive them. The bride looked very charming and was
attired in a rich damascene silk dress with a handsome sweeping train, white
veil, and wreath of orange blossoms, the bridesmaid, Miss Mary Warner, looking
almost as fascinating in a dark slate-coloured silk, both the bride and
bridesmaid carrying very handsome bouquets. The groom and groomsman, Mr. Isaiah
Hale, wore the conventional swallow-tail coats, white kid gloves, and patent
leather boots, and went through with the ceremony as those only can who are
accustomed to move in the best society. On the whole, as the party stood before
the altar, they presented a very 'distingue' and 'prononcee' appearance, and
many encomiums were passed on the personal appearance of the bride and groom.
The sonorous tones of the clergyman were soon heard forging those links which
bind so firmly and indissolubly, and before many minutes had elapsed and ere
time was given to back out by either of the contracting parties, two souls
which but one short hour before had been divided were linked together and
merged into one forever. After partaking of a most 'recherche' repast at the
residence of the bride's mother on MacNab street the happy pair left at 2:30
for Chicago where the groom carries on a very large and extensive business.

where he was equally free in his expenditures. Finally his gaze rested upon one
of Mr. Davis's handsome female assistants, Miss Agnes Murphy, formerly of St.
Catharines. He asked her if she would like to be married and have him for a
