This morning the St. Mary's Cathedral was the scene of a brilliant fashionable wedding, the occasion of the marriage of Miss Jessie McPherson to Mr. Gordon, a prominent banker of Calcutta, India.A large procession of gay equipages took place from the residence of the bride's father and arrived at the cathedral at 11 o'clock where the occupants alighted on a carpet spread from the street and leading into the edifice, and proceeded to the altar. The church was crowded long before the time had arrived for the ceremony to be performed and before the bells began to toll.It was so densely packed that numbers were obliged to retire disappointed. There were five bridesmaids and one groomsman in attendance. The dresses of the bride and groom were patterns of beauty and elegance and attracted the admiring gaze of the assembled

multitude while the bridal ceremony was being performed. The Rev. Father Heenan, Administrator of the Diocese, officiated, and Rev. Fathers Brennan, Madigan, and others of the Roman catholic clergy were present. The happy occasion was enlivened by the excellent and appropriate music under the competent charge of Mr. O'Brine, organist of the Cathedral. The bride and groom proceed to New York and Boston, and after a short return visit, will continue their bridal trap to Rome in May next, and thence to the Holy Land.

BLUE‑JENKINS - Another instance of the course of true love running rough:The Jenkinses live less that a thousand miles from Stoney Creek, and of them, one was named Anna, a pretty and courageous young woman who dared to love John Blue of the neighbouring Slabtown, against the will and wishes of her father and brothers. Notwithstanding the opposition, the young people concluded to become bone of one bone and flesh of one flesh on a certain Thursday, trusting that time, which is said to make all things even, would bring the old people to a dutiful sense of their error. In order to marry Miss Anna on the day appointed, it became necessary in the course of human events to run away with her on Wednesday. With this intent uppermost, John Blue made his way towards the casket that did contain his jewel; to wit, the mansion of the Jenkinses. The jewel was there and so were the Jenkinses, father and sons, and they, not including the jewel, emptied their shotguns and revolvers and things, several times at John Blue, which was enough to convince almost any man that he was not wanted in that family. It did not convince John Blue, but he removed promptly. He had not gone far, however, before he met another Jenkins with more fireworks. John Blue remarked that he was unarmed at which young Jenkins gave him a show and did not fire.

The next morning, old Jenkins met John Blue, and inquired after his health, whether he was hurt. John said, No, he wasn't, and then old Jenkins said that Anna had left his house and that he supposed she had gone to John's father's place, and added, "If you marry her, John, I will hurt you". Directly John Blue heard that, he made tracks for home, and there, sure enough, was Anna, pretty, patient, waiting, and willing, awful willing. Time was precious. John Blue, like another Lochinvar, handed her into a buggy, and then drove her to Ancaster as fast as he could. Young Lochinvar did not run away with the beautiful Graham in a buggy, not exactly, but the poetic idea is the same, and where's the difference? Elder Brown married John Blue to Anna Jenkins, and may they live long and die happy. And may old Jenkins and the young Jenkinses, all of them, may they think better of their threat to make a cold corpse of John Blue, for the worst of purposes to put a young and loving wife to, is to make her a widow.

ROOS‑ROOS - At half past one in the afternoon, the small but handsomely fitted‑up Synagogue, situated on King street west, was crowded with the friends of the bride and groom and people of the congregation generally, awaiting the arrival of the affianced pair. The Synagogue was not decorated, but articles to be used in the performance of the rites were upon the altar which was almost in the centre of the place and around which, at intervals on the railing, shone the nuptial torches. Quaint Hebrew scriptural words, reading from right to left, were printed on the Ark in which the Hebrew Bible, written on parchment, is kept in every Synagogue.

The parents of the bride and groom soon entered and were followed shortly by the betrothed couple themselves. The groom was Mr. Salamon Roos upon whose arm his fair cousin, Miss Charlotte Roos, leaned as the wife that was to be. Miss Sarah Gooldrich was bridesmaid and Mr. A. Bernstein acted as groomsmen. Escorted by the attending bridesmaid and groomsman, the young pair took allotted seats within the altar rail. The bride was attired in a most chaste and becoming style, having her hair dressed in the charming oriental fashion which added beauty to her fine countenance. Her dress was of white silk of the most delicate texture and fitted with extreme neatness, while a white veil, again in the eastern fashion, shrouded her person on all sides. The groom, too, was handsomely dressed and wore a large white silk scarf around his shoulders.Mr. L. Bernstein officiated as priest on the occasion...
